Our Story
I have been a resident of our special tax district for over two decades. When I attempted to pay my community tax through the contracted agency I was denied access to my account. Curiously, I was directed to communicate solely with our community treasurer—a role she held despite not being the tax collector at the time.
Driven by a desire for transparency and change, I joined the board. At my first meeting, I posed a straightforward question: Why is the community foreclosing on an elderly, sick woman? Her home had a formal sign on her lawn and was scheduled to be auctioned. The board members denied the community’s involvement in initiating the foreclosure, obscuring the truth. I was prepared to personally settle her debt and was denied the financial information yet I was a board member asking at a board meeting.
Tragically, the woman passed away shortly after my inquiry and days before her home was to be auctioned, leaving behind a legacy of unanswered questions. As I delved deeper, I discovered other hidden foreclosures and sales—facts obscured by lengthy procedures.
I am now committed to unraveling these these complex procedures, shedding light on the unseen ledger, and ensuring that compassion prevails over bureaucracy. For the memory of that elderly woman, and for the integrity of our communities, we must forge a path toward transparency—one where facts are laid bare, and justice prevails.
